The Holidays.

It was a busy weekend for me. I didn't accomplish much K wise. I bought a bunch of new paint. Bought the stuff I need for my base (the idea is sparked and burning.) I sprued and flashed my Belial, Apothecary Term. and Co. Standard Term. I had planned on priming them and then highlighting. However I was informed by the better half that instead of that I would be building. With a twinkle in my eye the ideas ran wild.....what can I build. It was then that I was informed we were building ......

THE TREE. While this wasn't my goal for the evening it made her very happy and ultimately it made me happy. Which brings me to the last part of this post. Since it's the holidays and all, Happy whatever you celebrate. But I was wondering what's on those lists out there. What's the gift of gifts you're hoping for. Or if not for you whats the gift you're gonna have to hunt down all season for the little 40kers running around.
My list this year is pretty simple like it always is some movies, some books, some socks (yes socks), but the wish list portion was some good ole 40k stuff. Hoping to get 6 drop pods, The new Land Raider (name eludes me) some scout bikes and a Thunderfire cannon. Want the Iron Clad but it isn't out and i have a converted dread that hasn't seen the board yet that may become a homemade Iron Clad. Anyway enough of me. Whats on the wish lists for you all.

touch ups and redo's

So i spent a looooong time looking at the new Termy Sgt. pics. I wasn't really happy with him. So I pulled him back out and did some touch ups. Added some shading in a few spots corrected some missed spots. I also re-took the photos without flash. That helped a lot. Ultimately I'm not 100% with him but I will play him now and i don't feel so upset with him. Still got some things to improve on, and with a few pointers I got from Ron (He's probably sick of hearing from me already.) I think the next batch may be a step up. Anyway here's the two new shots, if you need to compare just scroll down the old shots are in the previous post.
Still not totally thrilled with the Aquila but i think it looks better than before.

New Photos and Stuff

So I didn't play on Tuesday. But I did manage to get some work done. I pulled and flashed all the Sternguard but that's it with them. I was gonna do a tank...was. However i went into my room of models and the Termy sergeant was screaming at me so I did him up instead. I also made, primes and painted the 20 bases for the stern and vanguard vets. I also put the final touches on the Titan. I also made a little photo box and started trying to improve my photo techniques. Word to the wise. If you get out the digi. cam. manual make sure you understand what they're talking about at least a little bit. I had to google a bunch of terms. But anyway without further ado. I give you the new pictures.

Here's the Titan with one of my Commanders and without. Notice it's home grown not home made. The difference, Home grown - I can't afford 1000 dollars so i found a same size model that i thought was cool, affordable and made it into my own. Home made - I still cant afford 1000 dollars but I also don't have the talent or resources to scratch build a replica. P.S. My home grown thunderhawk is in the works too.



Here's two side shots. I kept some original weapon to make the Turbo Laser. I made a new one though for the Mega cannon. Used some Warhammer bits and a few tank bits.


Next up is the New Termy Sgt. Few of him and one of him and his boys.



Lastly the 20 bases. The camera really highlights the gray. It may look like i just colored out of the lines. But I actually did that on purpose. I wanted some of the rock/debris color to get into the pieces so it looks like dust etc. From normal person point of view it works out well i think. It gets captured and highlighted a lot in the pictures as a mistake. I also put in some shots of some older pieces. Trying to get a feel for the new camera workings.

I'm Looking for anything here good, bad, ugly. I'm trying to make a good looking army and I'm also trying to make the photos look good. I don't want to try and enter a contest if my work is gonna look shotty. So I'm looking for all critiques be them what they may. If you like em great let me know. If you see some bad stuff i should try and fix please tell me. If they look like crap and i should just stop now LET ME KNOW. All i have is the wife to judge for me and I think she just wants me to go away and stop bugging her about them.
Oh a little about my painting I don't wash or ink It shines up to much for me. My army is supposed to be lost and old. So I was going for a more worn and weathered army. I pretty much only dry brush and highlight. I know i should probably start washing em and all but, A. I don't have any of it, and B. I tried to use it once, it went everywhere and I lost the model. Plus I'm so far into the army now it'd probably kill me to go back and start redoing them. Anyway Like I said I take all critiques and won't hold nothing against anyone. Let me know what's up. Also is the new photo setup working the white backdrop? I think it looks better than the ones I posted earlier of the guys wherever they were in the house.

WHATCHA READING

So in my now building/painting/working/Warcraft time i been catching up on some reading. I have a decent 40k library and I have every Predator, Alien, or Predator vs' Alien book ever made. Anyway what i was about to say. What books fill your reading library. I just finished the Blood Ravens omni. I got a few new ones in the mail. Deathwing, Brothers of the Snake, Angels of Darkness, The Blood Angels Omni. (Thanks Jawaballs for getting me so interested in the BA all of a sudden.) The Killing Ground (the 4th installment of the Nightbringer Ultramarines line.) Also got the two new predator novels and just about finished one of em.
Anyway just wondering what everyone reads or does when there not 40k'ing'.

Side note. I'm working on the Sternguard and a tank right now. Thanks voters. I'm also working on a photo box to better show my minis. Got some games tomorrow and I'll be posting the titan in about a day. Got a full plate on top of I'm trying to level 3 characters in Warcraft, gotta love expansions.

FTW November Challenge (Finished.)

Here is my entry for the November FTW create a mission Challenge. (http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2008/11/ftw-challenge-create-40k-scenario_01.html)Ive always Loved kill teams and single team games. So i thought this up Long Long Ago and now i get to show it. I have never test played it but i want to one day. I thought this one up to base a squads true fighting potential. It's setup to be a days of old fight where men lined up and killed each other to win glory for there general. It's setup to show the balance in armies where i team may have 10 guys and the other has 20 but the 10 may have better saves etc. It may or may not work I have never gotten to play test it. i designed it to be a time killer when your waiting around for your turn at a table to get a game in or if you just wanted to use that squad that never gets used and see how they do.

+ Mission Title- A Gentleman's War
+ Mission Description- After months of fighting the generals of the battling armies meet to discuss terms. No terms can be reached so it is put on each general to build an courageous squad of troops to fight for the battles final victory.
+ Mission Deployment- SO EASY - The game can be played on any surface. Each player sets up his squad 12 inches from the other player Facing him.
+ Who has to go first-Roll Off - Highest roll goes 1st
+ When the game specifically ends- When 1 squad is dead or 40 minutes.
+ Special Rules relevant to your scenario- The scenario is based around 1 squad. The Squad must consist of 1 and only 1 troops choice from your respective codex. (example- SM Troops - Tactical squad or Scout squad.) The squad may contain 1 leader (sgt, champion etc.) The Squad may be no more than 200 points. The squad and leader may take a combined total of 50 points in war gear. The leader may also challenge the other squads leader to a solo close combat battle. Your squad may upgrade to any options available in their troop options per codex, but they must be shooting options only. Squads do not enter close combat or move the entire scenario. The Only CC is fought between the leaders if a challenge is issued. RESTRICTIONS: No 2+ or better saves. No Invulnerable saves or items that grant Inv. saves. No Named characters. No special options (ex. Belials deathwing being used as a troop. No Belial available no DW available.) No more than 1 wound per model. All models must be shooting oriented, this is to your advantage as a CC model will not do anything the entire game. Squads cannot be upgraded to take additional war gear they may only take what is offered in their specific army listing under their specific unit. (ex. 1 tactical squad numbering 10 men may take a flamer or melta gun or plasma gun for ?? points, 1 marine may take a heavy bolter or las, plasma can., missile for ?? points.) NO TERRAIN OR COVER IS USED.
+ Leader face off rules - Each player has the option to challenge the other players leader/Sgt/etc. to a Close Combat battle. The two models will be taken aside and fight to the death. For the purposes of possible intsadeath weapons both leaders receive a 5+ invulnerable save usable only during the Close Combat battle. The victor returns to his army the next start of a full round and gives them great vigor. For the round the winning leader returns his squad may re-roll any failed armor saves. The Losers squad mourns the loss of there leader and for the rest of the game they must pass a leadership test. If the test is failed then 1 member of the squad leaves the battle. The test is taken each round until the game ends, all members flee the battle or time runs out.
+Setup and Playing- Each player sets up his squad 12 inches form the opposing player. The squads are setup in 2 lines a front rank and a rear rank. The leader of the squad is placed behind the rear rank. The two players the roll off to see who goes first and the battle begins. Each team will trade off shots. with the other squad until one team is destroyed. If a Leader calls out the opposing teams leader the two will move to the side and battle in close combat to the death.
Setup is based on civil war style combat.

FINISHED SOME TERMIES


Finished up 4 of the old terminators. The 2nd photo is a before and after the left one is my terms from 3 years ago when i first got them. The right is a new one. I let the wife inspect em and she said they both look good. So i'm a little worried now cause i think the new ones look good and the old ones are crap. But I think she is just triyng to make me happy to. Anyway that's what i've finished now. Got some other oldies to redo I may just scrap em and buy new ones. Which leaves 10 new termies to do. I dunno I think I may put the Bikes on the painting table or maybe the Speeder. Dunno yet. I need to build and paint up my vanguard and sternguard. Who knows i'll figure it out as I go. Still got a bunch to paint. Oh and gonna post up a pic of the homegrown titan here in a few days too.
Im also debating what to paint my Term sgts. I'm thinking all black to go for the lost uniforms of the ancient angels. Dunno though. Ideas?


Tuesday games




Played a couple of games tuesday, necs vs' archangels. Chaos had a family event and no showed. Soon the corrupted should be joining the battle. Also got a guy at the store throwing out his templars trying to scare me. I told him to bring it. Belial and his boys are aching for another round.
Anyway Game 1
1000 points Necs vs' Archangels
Pitched battle; Capture and Control.
Angels list.
Chaplain with Command squad (apothecary and champion 1 Sgt pwr weapon and 2 marines.)
5 man tac sgt with plas pistol.
5 man tac sgt with plasma pitsol.
dreadnought (assault cannon, ccw.)
10 man dev. squad split into combat teams 2 plasma cannons, 2 lascannons.
Nec list.
Monolith
Lord
10 warriors
Immortals
10 warriors and 3 scarab swarms in reserves.
I won deployment and first go. I placed my two tacs within walking range of the center and left field objectives. put a lascannon team as far from the monolith as possible in cover. Put the plasma cannon team behind the leftfield tac team in cover. The Comm. squad and Dread hid on the right flank to move up into his lord and warrior.
Rd1, My tacs move to objectives and secure 2. Comm squad and Dread move up field towards lord and warriors. Shooting was unveventful las team managed to destroy 1 turret on the monolith and shook it. (desn't matter cause the pie plate crystal on the mono fires no matter what. AHHHH) Necs turn the immortlas moved up and towards my tac tema in the middle. The monolith moves towards my leftfield teams. His warriors claim the far side objective. Shooting was better for him the immortals killed off a marine in midfield and the monolith dropped a pie on the Plasma cannons and tac team in cover. 1 marine form each squad died.
Rd2, Comm and dread move up right flank everyone else stays put. Comm squad Kills the lord. he fails WBB and leaves the game on the nec turn. Las team shakes and stuns mono. 2 nec warriors get wounded. They both die on WBB rolls. Nec turn with the lord out the warriors on the objective move away and shoot into the comm squad. 6 wounds i save all but 1 which the apothecary wipes clean. (I LOVE APOTHECARYS). The beast (monolith) pie plates the tac and Plas. team again more death 1 tac and 2 Plas team die.
Rd3, Comm squad is out for blood they move towards the retreating warriors. I wanted to tank shock the immortals but didnt know how and messed up doing it so the rhino just moved at the immortals (cover). dread moves towards warriors and shoots. Dread rends 2 wounds two. The comm squad doesnt even shoot they want the assault. My shooting with the rest was pothetic until the las team. They both hit the monolith. 1 shot shakes the mono (stupid minuses for non ap1 sucks on a arm14 beast.) BUT the other shot rolls a 6 which minuses to a 5 and BOOM the mono goes down (destroyed.) That made the game for me even if i lost i finally downed the monolith. The Comm squad assaults the warriors and kills all but 3. The arriors fail leadership and run off the board. Nec turn his scarabs and other warriors deepstrike in. The warriors behind my comm squad and the scarabs in the middle building near my middle objective. the immortals and the warriros shoot at the comm squad but nothing well 1 wound that the apothecary saves. (Have i said I LOVE APOTHECARYS.)
Rd4, HIs warriors are to far to get the comm. sqd. into assault so they move towards the immortals. But the dread isnt to far he moves towards the warriors. The Rhino, decides to tank shock the scarabs. Gets the roll for difficult terrain and charges. Note scarabs are immune to tank shocks. So beasically he drives through them they move and he ends up stuck inside a building. Good side though he ended up blocking the scarabs from being able to contest the objective in the mddle. Shooting wise the las team, plas team and tacs shoot at the immmortals and wound 2. they'll get back up later. the dread rends 2 warrios, wounds 2 and then assaults Killing 2 with his power fist. The comm squad shoots the immortals and wounds 1 who fails wbb and dies. Nec turn the immortals get back up and move away from the comm. sqd. He shoots up the comm. sqd. and I lose a marine. Apothecary saved 1. His scarabs assault the rhino but can't hurt it.
Rd. 5 Comm. sqd. Moves into range of the immortals. I don't shoot anything. The comm. sqd. assaults the immortals and Kills 2 straight up. The necrons Phase Out.
I took the win, and had 2 objectives. 1 was left unclaimed.
Learned- Monoliths OMG what a beast as always. The lucky las shot did it. Had that beast deepstriked into my teams i probably would have been toast. But the Las boys payed off. Comm. Sqd rocked apothecary saves are great. Learned -which is gonna get me soon I know, all gause weapons cause shaken to vehicles so my dreads are gonna be sitting ducks. Also make sure there's windows in the building before you try and shoot out of them.
I tried a differnent style army more stand and shoot than my usual assault but it still worked.
Game 2 was a proxy game Necs wanted to try some flayed ones for assault. We played annhilation; spearhead. 750 points
Angels,
chap and 5 assault marines no pack-Drop Pod
10 man tac flamer, Multi melta-DP
10 man tac flamer sqt with power-DP

Necs,
2- 10 man warrior squads and 2- 5 man flayed ones in reserve. Lord
Rd1. I drop in two pods shoot into his warriors wounding 3 (We both had horrible rolls this whole game.) the Necs fail WBB on 2 and then shoot into my marines killing nothing.)
Rd2. The pods shoot and wound 1 warrior. the assault tema assaults a warrior squad and my tac team assaults the other. The chaplain and his squad take out all but 3 of the warriors.v My tac team wpunds 2 warriors. the Necs fail to hurt anyone. The nec turn he gets all his WBB rolls except 1 form the assualt with the chaplains team. 1 Sqaud of flayed ones enters behid the chaplains team. Assualt, The marines wound 1 the chaplain wounds 4. His necs kill a marine.
Rd3. Pods shoot a flayed one down. The assualt, chaps team wounds 3, the tac marines wound 1.
He fails to wound. Nec turn, All but 2 get up form WBB. His Lord uses veil of darkness and pulls out the warriors fighting the chaplain. but the veil scatters and he cant shoot at me cause he is behind a building. Flayed ones move into assault with chaplain. the chaplain kills 2. the marines and flayed roll together and 2 flayed are wounded and 2 marines die.
Rd4. My last pod lands the marines shoot into the lord and the remaining warriors with him. i wound 3. Assault my Chaplain destroys the rest of the flayed. The tac squad in assault with the arriors is doing nothing. Just trading off a marine for a nec each turn. Nec turn WBB i warrior dies form the lords squad. The 2nd flayed squad deepstrikes behind my tac team in assault. Assault is uneventful no losses.
Rd5. Tac team 2 moves twards lord and warriors. Chaplain moves towads flayed ones. the Assault was brutal my chaplain and assault squad kills off the flayed ones. the tac team assaults the lord and wounds 3 but the lords staff of light kills 3 marines outright. the neverending assault with the warriors and tac marines continues I lose 1 marine. I pass all my leadership tests. Nec. turn 1 flayed gets up nad is crushed by the chaplain. his lord kills off 2 more marines 1 wound a warrior. THe neverending assault is uneventful no one dies. I pass th eleadership and we go to turn 6.
Roll off for 6 fails game ends. Angels lose.
He has 3 points form my pods. I have 2 points from killing off his flayed ones.
Learned- Pods screw me everytime they give away points. WBB gets me too. In annhilation i just cant kill em fast enough with them just getting right back up. I gotta figure something out.

Some pics of the army

Some pics as promised, not great yet like i said im still learning. These are just some of my army. Got alot more that hasn't been done and some that hasn't seen the camera. Note my first 2 home made drop pods. Getting 6 new ones to replace the 5 home grown. One of my dreads an assault squad, my newest chaplain. My whole done army so far, lot of scouts troops assault teams. Hq table with sgts, hq's, a bike sgt, tech some other stuff, my captains and champion. notice the 2 warmachine guys on the right. Had to get rid of that army wife said pick a game so...i picked THE K, love 40k. anyway hope you like. Comments, pros, cons, critiques,

Gaming Tuesday

I played 2 games today both verse my friends necrons. We were supposed to have some chaos to but our chaos friend hasnt put em together yet. Anyway....
Game 1: 1000 pts. DA vs' Nec
I was fielding a dethwing squad all deepstriking
Belial (termies count as troops)
Interigator Chaplian in term. arm.
1 squad 5 termies with standard, apothecary, thunderhamer/stormshield combo and heavy flamer.
1 squad 5 termies cylone missile launcer.
1 squad termies.

Necs:
Monolith
Lord w/immortals
2 x 10 man warriors
3 scarab swarms

I ended up winning in 5 rounds by taking all 3 points. We were playing capture and control. We setup and got ready to play.
I had all my termies in reserve for deathwing assault. He placed 2 nec 10 man squads on the board and his hq and immortals. He won placement for control points so both of his nec troops were in range of 2 points. I had 1 point close to my deployment zone. He won the rolls and got to go first. he moved into range of his 2 capture points. i took Belials squad with the chaplain and deepstriked. I got lucky and didnt scatter and landed in a spot 4 inches from his nec squad farthest from his lord. My cyclone term squad came in and luckily didnt scatter and landed in range of my control point. i unloaded with belials squad into the necs in front of them and wounded 3. The cyclone squad shot at his 2nd squad of nec troops but did nothing and the frag missile scattered away from them. Round 2 will be back brought all but 1 nec back and he tried to bring in his monolith and scarabs in but didnt get a good role for reserves. With no mono in he decided to shoot me up. Luckily Belials quad lasted they took about 40 shots and only lost one term. On my turn i got a great roll and got to deepstrike in my last unit. I put them in front of his other troops choice the 10 man squad nearest to his Lord. I scattered but rolled low and only ended up 2 inches away from him. I moved the cyclone squad on top of my objective and moved belials squad towards the farthest nec. squad. Shooting brought about 3 downed necs in the close squad and 2 down necs in the far squad. Now time for the assault Belials squad tore into the far squad and they wreaked havoc. A majority of the squad was gone from belial and the chaplain. He had 3 models left they attempted to attack the terms but didnt get any wounds. The 4 powerfists and thunderhammer punched in and took them out. The nec squad was destroyed and Belials squad claimed that objective. Round 3 will be back brings back 2 necs from the last remaing nec squad. However the monolith deepstrikes in beside my cyclone termies. It doesnt scatter and now I have a Arm14 behemoth sitting at the front door. The scarabs don't get the roll and stay off board. He lays into the termie squad in front of his last nec troops but doesnt manage to kill any. The lords immortals try and kill 1. The mono. gets a ton of shots from a d6 roll but doesnt manage to kill any of my cyclone team. It then lays out a pie plate and manages to wound one term after scatter. Lucky for the 5+ inv save. I survive. My turn, I move Belials team up a little but stay with the objective. I shoot Bels. squad at his lord and immortals. Manage to wound 2. my terms shoot at the nec troops and wound 2. Try and take the monolith with a krak missile from the cyclone but it hits and does nothing with a great 1 roll for pen. Assault time. Belial stays put, hes way out of range. My 4 terms attack his last troop choice and survive his attacks i manage to kill 5. HE passes leadership and were stuck in mortal combat. I charge the mono wiht the cyclone squad. Get some good rolls an manage to immobilise it 2 times and destroy a weapon. woulda been more but the new modifiers suck was rolling at -2 or -1 every time. Round 4, he doesnt move anything but gets the scarabs on the board, his lord squad shoots at belials squad but fails to kill anything YAY for apothecarys. his assault phase necs dont hurt me and i kill all but 2 of the remaining. The mono gets immobilised again. My turn no movement Belials squad shoots at the lord manages to do nothing but luckily the 2 previous wounds 1 failed a will be back. Into assault, termies kill off the last nec troops and i stun and shake the mono. Round 5 He moves his scarabs into assault with belials squad. Scarabs die. We roll for round 6 and get it but with his casualties he ends up phasing out. Win in 5 I was in range of all points and his army was gone.
What did i Learn, Deathwing is awesome but costly. Monoliths are beasts with the new vehicle damage rules. Even witha lascan. I can see them being huge problems. Apothecary + Standard + chaplain in a termy squad is insane. Plus 1 to all attacks, rerolls from litanies and apothecarys wiping a wound, AWESOME!. I'm starting to lean toward DA all the way.

I won first roll and got to deploy after setup (we were playing captur again) I got lucky though and ended up getting 2 points close to me. i put my 1st tac squad out and he says done. His whole army was in reserve to deepstrike and come out of the monolith. so i placed the other tac squad as close to the other objective. I infiltrated shrikes team on top of the 3rd ovjective.
Round 1 I move both tacs onto objectives. Drop pod enters and deploys the dread with shrikes team. YAY for running dreadnoughts. I have all 3 points now, 2 scoring and 1 contested. He cant enter in reserve yet.




Round 2 i Stay put he doesnt get the role and still doesnt enter play. Round 3 Same as round 2 he doesn't get the role again and still doesn't enter play. Round 4 I stay put he gets the role and the mono drops ontop of my rear tac squad. Cool mono rule it can land on your guys and they have to move. Which he scatters into me and has to move. Luckily thanks to the doors facing he had to deploy into my troops and ended up losing 1 warrior because he was to close to me. He was also stuck in the door. His Warriors shoot my tac squad an kill 2 marines.
Round 5, My tac squad shoots thewarriors, wounds 1 my other squad shoots the warriors and wounds 1. Shrikes team cant hurt the mono but moves into range for assault. The dread tries for the rendering 6's but fails to get any. I assault the Necrons in the monliths archway with my two marines. manage to wound 1 and my boys survive. WHich saves me cause were stuck in the door so he can't bring out his lord or the other squad. Shrikes squad assaults the monolith and manages to destroy a turret 1 of 4.



We roll off for Round 6 but dont get it. I win claiming 1 objective outright. the dread is contesting 1 and the monolith and warriors are in battle with my 3 tac marines and Shrikes squad on the other.
What did i learn. Monoliths are still beatst, Thats about it, I got really lucky in this game he got bad reserve rolls and his facing prohibited any other necrons coming into play becaues we got stuck in the doorway. I think he learned some tricks though and i'll probably be getting it handed to me next time we play. Looking forward to it.
I also got the camera working took some pics of battle 2. Had some battle 1 pics but they're blurry. Still trying to figure out how to get great shots.

Think i'll be putting the termies on the painting table and will be getting them redone and finished im liking the deathwing. :)

Just a sidenote though we played 2 weeks ago and i learned the hardway necs dont go down and stay down. I lost the first game we played that day and won the second by phase out and by claiming 2 of 3 objectives. I fear the Day Lachlan gets some anti assualt necrons (flayed ones shudder)

painting and more painting

So, I have about a 12,000 point SM army working on a thunderhawk which will push me into the 13,000 area. I have been working for the last 6 months on getting it all painted. When i first got the army about 4 years ago i was under the notion of paint and play. Well needless to say the models were painted green some horrid extra color and done. Then I started playing and saw some other peoples armies. Needless to say i have re-done the army. Started redoing them about a year or so ago. Put together a dread and some marines. Painted em up to what i was happy with, which i believe is a above standard tabletop. I'm not hoping for any golden demon awards but i like the occasional "wow those guys are sweet." But on to recent developments. Ive been painting like i said for the last 6 months. i only get a day and a half a week off so i spend about half of one of those days painting up models. I try to get about 5 to 10 done depending on complexity. SO yeah the point of this post just finished 5 assault marines with jump packs, 2 flamer marines and 1 meltagun marine. i got the camera up and running, now im just trying to make some good shots. I'll be posting the pics in the next day or so of some of the army and some of the newly finished pieces. I may even show my before marines and where i am now with them. I think ive advanced considerably in my painting ability. Anyway more to come plus i should be playing some games on Tuesday so batreps soon.
